History of Horse Racing:

It has been reiterated again and again that horse racing is one of the oldest sports in history. Any person interested in going through the history of this sport would know this without having to be told, the fact that the horses were domesticated in the prehistoric ages is also a very well known and repeated fact, as are the Roman Chariot races and the saddle races in of the Greeks. Although these facts have been repeatedly added in any mention of horse racing and have become hackneyed they cannot be removed or changed, for as said above they are the facts, some of the landmarks of this sport that would be incomplete without these events.

The modern history is also the same, England being the initiator of the modern version, more so the English Knights who had gone in search of heroism and a girth to prove themselves and their country and returned with the Arabian treasures, the horses that could outrun and outdo their horses in many fields. The needed to breed a better race of horses for their own country started off the thoroughbred breeding, where the Arabian horses were cross bred with the local mares and the result was the thoroughbred horses which the breeders have been trying to perfect for centuries after that, to the current era, trying to come up with race winners in every foal.

Later the mention of the Kings of the Middle Ages, who usurped the sport, made it solely their own, horse races took place but only the elite and upper class could take part and bet on them, the masses were sidelined, with no information or knowledge about the horses and the races what so ever, but yes they were allowed to watch and applaud. Later a time came when this trend was eradicated, general public could get acquainted with the horses and race them as well, betting was not only for the elite the masses could try their hands at it too. Popularity of the sport was more far reaching and wide spread than ever before, the building of new tracks and the onset of more races all gave it a new life and professional look, with the Jockey Club and the classic races also rising to the surface. The fame of this sport spread like wild fire amongst the English people in different areas, regions and finally abroad to the other countries. Many of the countries gave it such a welcome that it surpasses its popularity in England by several levels too. Australia being one such country where horse riding was taken up by all the classes, the horses were revered and learning to ride the horses was thought one of the best past times and hobbies. No doubt there were other countries too that took to horses and riding as well as breeding, New Zealand fast becoming one of the top and best horse breeding countries around the globe. In the current racing season around 20 of the New Zealand bred horses have managed to clinch victory for themselves and name for their country. Of the newly added countries to these lines of the top horse racing are Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai countries where increasing numbers of horse races have been taking place regularly and these races have acclaimed success in the countries as well as from horse racing fans from all around the globe.

The horse races that have developed in many countries are thoroughbred, harness and Jump races as well as the endurance and Quarter races, all these and some more take up the total of thousands of races and meets as well as events that take place in all these countries, but the thoroughbred races are the common factor in all the countries for they are the most extensively run.
